Rick's BJJ Patches

Besides the effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a martial art, both for self defense and in competition, there are some other aspects related to it that bring a lot of positive emotions to all those who suddenly decide to embrace this lifestyle. Yep, I'm talking about patches on your training Gis or Kimonos.

I've been following the development of BJJ since early 90s and this is probably the very first time in my life where I realize how important the symbolic value of academy and team patches (especially in competition) has become.

It's not just a really awesome and fun way to advertise your coach, gym, country or town. It's a great way to appear different when you're being called to fight next on the mats.

I've been in loved with patches ever since I discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and to this day I support the cause of this evolution in martial arts, comparing to the old boring Judo/Jiu-Jitsu or Karate Gis that people used to have in the days.

What has been said above are just my own two cents regarding this. Below you will find some additional references and companies that will help you develop your own academy patches in case you are looking for something similar. I've also included a video above this text that will help you understand how to sew your patches better.
